P002 → XYBER

As an immigrant, my biggest culture shock coming to NYC was trying to figure out how people interact with one another through a screen.

Comes XYBER – A project that brings the American Cyberculture closer to those who are unfamiliar with it. There are two components of this project:

★ XYBERCLTR

an app to search for everything about Internet slang.
★ XYBERLNKD

a serial publication that dives deep into the American cyberculture.

01Defining The Problem

There isn’t a One-Stop Shop for all things slang and American Cyberculture

Since slang and internet behaviors arise from the most unpredictable situations, there isn’t an accredited source quick enough to document all of them. As a result, people outside of the American cyberculture have to scour the web to find a slither of reputable enough sources.

A)
Online communication and influencer culture populate slang and abbreviations online. The desire to fit in drives the search process.

B) Google and Urban Dictionary are two popular resources for most slang. Users have to do more digging for recent/obscure slang.

XYBERCLTR: A One-Stop Shop to search for everything Internet slang

1) Basic functions:

You can search for a definition of slang, which scours the internet to find the most accurate one...
...or look for appropriate slang for your communication needs online.
The explore page is for when you want to search for a concept, not just a term.
The print section allows you to see a preview of the latest volume of XYBERLNKD and order a PDF/physical copy.

2) Community Engagement

You can highlight an unknown term on any social media platform to trigger a pop-up with its definition.
If you spot any mistakes in our translation, report away!

3) XYBERCLTR Wrapped
SPECIAL: Join in on the fun of internet culture!
XYBERCLTR Wrapped gives you a summary of your most frequently used terms in a given year :)

4) Figma Prototype

XYBERLNKD: A One-Stop Shop to read about everything Cyberculture

Now that I’ve tackled the search issue, I want to extend this project by adding a serial publication to dive deeper into the American cyberculture. I wanted to separate the two because XYBERCLTR is only meant to be a tool for quick searches.
Below is the first issue of XYBERLNKD.
